Across the USA - Over 1 million pedal strokes in 42 days - congratulations Ken Nickerson!

A huge congratulations goes out to Ken Nickerson for completing the Trek Cross Country USA Bike Tour!  From Ken's Blog..."If I include my rest day rides and the initial rides in Santa Barbara, I rode 3570 miles in 220 hours at an average speed of 16.2 mph. (I am a numbers guy, so I record these things.) Since my average cadence is just about 80 rpm, that means I likely pedaled slightly over 1 million strokes."  WOW!

Ken Nickerson Crushes 400K Brevet in Record Time

Ken Nickerson set out on his first Brevet (Boston 400k, New England Randonneurs) on June 8th 2019.  He wasn't exactly sure what to expect and was planning to take it at a comfortable pace to finish in under 20 hours.  Then he found himself in the front group of 5 riders moving along at what felt like an OK pace.  He explained to his Coach, Karen Mackin, that it was just a little faster than he had planned, but it was nicer to ride with the group than solo.  So he went along with them... ALL the way to the finish!  He said, "Somehow I was able to stay with the fastest 5 other riders. My legs were shaking at the end and I could barely stand, but I managed not to get dropped."  The group set a course record of 13:50 hours!  What a ride!

Laura Conway has a winning season wrap up

This Fall Laura Conway has wrapped up her multi-sport season with some fantastic results!
1. Second place Age Group at the Pumpkinman Olympic Distance Triathlon Festival
2. 1st place overall masters team at Ragnar Reach the Beach (joined Coach Karen Mackin's Mixed Super masters Team).  This was quite a team accomplishment as the teams average age was 52yrs old, the team is Coed, AND the team beat ALL teams over 40yrs old, including the 40+ men's teams).
3. 1st Place Age Group at Powisset Farm 8.3 mile trail running race.  This was a tough race and Laura used her Stryd power meter to keep her pacing spot helping her to podium!

Finally, and probably most importantly, Laura Conway has moved up again in her USA Triathlon annual rankings.  She has continued a fantastic 3 year sequence of improvement.  In looking at the results, she is exited for next year and has set a goal to for All-American recognition next year!

Bill Sheahan has a Breakthrough Ironman at Mont Tremblant

On Sunday, Aug 19, 2018 Bill Sheahan finished his 7th Ironman with PR's across the board (personal records for swim, T1, bike, T2, and run!).  It was an overall 52 minute personal best Ironman time and 55 minutes faster on the same course (Mont Tremblant). Karen Mackin, his Peaks Coaching Group Coach and Bill worked out a race plan using Power on both the bike and the Run. This was the first year of pacing the run using his Stryd Power meter and Bill felt like it was definitely helpful. He said "I just went with the power numbers!" even when the pace might have told him otherwise, he knew in the long run sticking to the power plan would pay off.  And it really did!  Congratulations Bill for the Best Ironman Ever!
