Bruce Rychlik on the Podium at Pumpkin Cross

Bruce Rychlik won the Silver Medal on October 22, 2017 in Surry, NH at Keene Pumpkin Cross in the Men Cat 4/5 50+ Race.  He was also thrilled to come in 5th among his competitors in the combined field that day (Juniors, and Cat 4/5 40+)!.  The outcome was well deserved and long awaited for Bruce.  It was the culmination of all of the hard work  he has done building up to this race.  His PCG Coach, Karen Mackin says, "Bruce just gets down to business, does the killer intervals and is attentive to details during skills practices." He has been consistently improving since he first started CX. Reminiscing about the race Bruce explained, "I wasn’t sure if I would ever make a podium. Every week I looked longingly at the racers with their arms held high. They earned what they deserved. I just couldn’t understand the circumstances in which I would get one. I surprised myself during the sprint and knew from then on, I would have a chance! And, now that I have one, I am not sure if I will get another. But I really savored the moment to be sure."  Congratulations Bruce!

Steve Pandelidis wins 3rd at York Y-Tri

On Sunday June 25th Steve Pandelidis raced some very speedy 55-59 year old triathletes at the Y-Tri Sprint Triathlon in York, PA.  Steve told his Peaks Coaching Group Coach, Karen Mackin, "You never know who will show up". Steve came in 3rd place in this age group and 20th overall!  The Top 3 men in his category all would have won the 50-54 year old category.  Steve even managed to finish faster than the 3rd place finisher in the 45-49 age category!  It was a great race with some fantastic competition.   Congratulations Steve!

Stacey Wins Masters at Indian Creek

Stacey McMickens won the Masters Womens Category at Indian Creek Sprint Triathlon held on Sunday July, 11, 2017 and place 5th out of all the women racers!  Stacey had a very strong race despite having a crazy full week of coaching a High School Triathlon Camp the week leading up to it.   She was a little worried because she was on her legs the whole time, but perhaps her competition had a tough week too, because she still came out on top!  Way to go Stacey!

Stacey McMickens places 4th in the CapTex Olympic Distance Triathlon

On Memorial day 2017, Stacey McMickens races in Austin, Texas at the CapTex Olympic Distance Triathlon.  Stacey got off to a good start in the swim and managed to have the fastest T1 in her category.  She hopped on her bike and rode a very crowded course (a 6 mile circuit with hills and 2000 people!).  She was going much faster than a lot of the racers on the course so at times she felt like she had to "almost camp out in the left lane".  Needless to say, her bike split went very well.  She finished up the race with an impeccably paced 10k, and crossed the finish line in 4th place in her very competitive age group.  Congratulations Stacey!

Steve Pandeldis is on a Roll,1st again

In his last race, Steve Pandelidis won his age group. It appears that Steve is on a roll because this past weekend at the Got The Nerve Triathlon in Lebanon, PA on May 20, 2017 he did it again, finishing two minutes and fifteen seconds faster than second place in his division. The highlight of this race is right at the start jumping off the Cape May – Lewes Ferry.  It was a great day for Steve!

Lynette Hing is 2017 Super Master's National TT and Road Champion!

Singapore's Individual Time Trial National Championships were held on May 7th, 2017. Lynette Hing's first sentence in her post-activity comments was "My worst nightmare, somehow [I] could not get my power meter to work"!  She had spent the previous day visualizing herself maintaining her target wattage, but now she needed an alternate plan. Fortunately, the course was the same as last year. She quickly checked last year's results, memorized her lap splits and attempted to hit similar splits for the early laps to ensure that she didn't start out too hard.  She was a little worried in the first lap, because she felt like she might be working too hard, but was reassured when she saw her first lap time.  She kept working very hard, and soon passed the girl ahead of her. She commented, "My legs were super sore and I was really breathless... I wasn't sure if I was going too hard or if I should slow down. I dug deep and forced myself to continue, overtaking the second girl ahead, then the third. I could barely maintain my pace on the last lap and was very tempted to slow down. Then I saw the fourth girl in front. It took a long time but I finally overtook her as well. Was really happy to come in first!"

The National Championship Road race was two weeks later on Sunday, May 21st.   To Lynette's surprise, she found it to be one of the friendliest races she had ever been to.  She described the women in her category as "relaxed and chatty".  The first three laps, everyone rode together, rotating at the front. When the last lap came around, Lynette didn't want it to come down to a sprint, because she knew that this would lead to an easy win for one of the other girls.  In the last lap, she decided to make a break with three kilometers left to go. Lynette detailed the end of the race: "I rode as hard as I could, then settled into VO2 max pace. The finish line took forever and I was starting to tire. I turned around and saw them rapidly gaining onto me. Giving a final push, I was so happy to cross the line and finish first!"

Steve Pandelidis Wins Age Group at "Got the Nerve" Triathlon

On May 20th 2017, Steve Pandelidis raced at "Got the Nerve" sprint Triathlon; swimming 500 yds. in Mt. Gretna Lake, riding 16 mi. country roads through both Lebanon & Lancaster Counties, PA and finishing with a 5K run on a beautiful Rails-to-Trails path.   He managed to finish almost a minute and a half faster than the second place finisher in his age group with a time of 1:25:57.   He sent his PCG coach, Karen Mackin some photos of his "Happy Day" after the race.  Karen then learned, it was especially happy because his wife Julie ALSO won her age group too!

Stacey McMickens Wins AG at Louisiana Triathlon

Congratulations to Stacey McMickens for placing first in her Age Group at the LA Sprint Triathlon held at False River, Louisiana.  She had a good 800m swim with the leaders in her wave. Stacey loved the 17 mile bike wave as it was flat and fast, and she felt particularly strong as she passed many riders along the way.  The 5k run course suited her because of the out and back. Allowing her to gain motivation by seeing where her competition was!   Stacey had a great day and not only won her age group but finished in 7th place overall!  Congratulations Stacey!

Lynette Hing: 3rd GC, Siong Hing Qualifies for Gran Fondo Worlds at Tour de Bintan

Lynette and Siong Hing put out some amazing results this past weekend March 3-5, 2017 at the Tour de Bintan, Indonesia.  The first two stages, the ITT and the Gran Fondo Classic were qualifiers for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championship in France.  Siong performed well enough on the qualifying events to earn a slot at Worlds!  He also finished the stage race in 12th place GC among a very competitive international field.   Lynette's field was a tough one. She worked extremely hard to pull off a 3rd place finish in the ITT, a fourth place finish in the 140km Gran Fondo Classic and finished off the stage race with 3rd place in the 111km final stage resulting in Bronze for the overall GC.  Congratulations to both!
